Welcome! We offer FREE and virtual parent education activities in Lake, Klamath, and Douglas counties, including other opportunities like workshops, family activities, events, and resources to help parents learn ways to provide effective discipline and guidance, nurture and foster life skills, promote healthy development, and, most of all, enjoy the enormous task of raising their children from infants to teenagers

Parent Education is a grant-funded and community supported program located at the Douglas Education Service District. We are part of the Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative and receive grants from The Oregon Community Foundation, Ford Family Foundation, Meyer Memorial Trust and The Collins Foundation, as well as the Department of Early Learning and Care, and the Oregon Department of Human Services to serve as the parent education and resource “Hub” for Douglas, Klamath, and Lake Counties.

Focus areas:

Increase access to quality parenting education activities, resources, and supports throughout the region
Create a coordinated network of parenting education programs to avoid duplication of services
Increase parental understanding of child’s learning, development, and readiness for school
Normalize parenting education, so all parents feel comfortable needing and asking for help

Our program provides a variety of training opportunities for parents, whether of young children or teens, focusing on child development, nonviolent discipline methods, stress management, and proactive communication techniques. For parents of young children, the program emphasizes nurturing growth through stimulation, age-appropriate activities, and strong, nurturing relationships. For parents of teens, it provides guidance on fostering positive relationships, setting healthy boundaries, and supporting independence.

Research has shown that learning and practicing these parenting skills is crucial to creating nurturing and supportive environments at every stage of a child’s development. By building these environments, parents contribute significantly to their children’s social, emotional, and cognitive growth, whether they are just starting out or approaching adulthood.

Parenting Classes

Our FREE classes focus on prenatal to the age of eighteen. Many community partners and school districts join together to support this collaborative effort to serve parents, children and families in South Central Oregon, from Douglas, Klamath to Lake Counties.
