School Safety

Douglas ESD’s School Safety and Prevention Services (SSPS) is a collaborative program through The Oregon Department of Education to promote safe, inclusive environments for all students. The program provides critical support in areas like crisis response, suicide prevention, equity-based training, anti-bullying strategies, and behavioral safety assessments. By partnering with schools and community organizations, we help provide tools and resources needed to promote the well-being of students and staff.

A key component of the program is the Flight Team. This service offers free crisis support to schools, helping restore stability after events like loss, trauma, or natural disasters. Administrators can access guidance on threat assessments, crisis management, and prevention strategies to maintain safe learning environments.

What to expect?

We'll attentively hear your circumstances and provide consultation or assistance as required in any of the subsequent areas:

Administrative Assistance
- Guidance on crisis response procedures for administration.
- Attendance of staff meetings at the start and/or end of the day.
Support Spaces
- Co-facilitate support spaces for students.
- Co-facilitate support spaces for staff.
Referrals and Resources
- Facilitate referrals to district counseling staff and/or community partners.
- Offer information on coping strategies.
Post-Crisis Support
- Aiding with ongoing needs post-crisis.
- Consultation on monitoring and supporting students and staff requiring assistance.

- Partnering Crisis Response Team members
- Team members may include school counselors, social workers, and school psychologists, as well as administrators or other individuals within the school community who possess experience in handling crisis situations. Contact SSPS via email for more information.
