Douglas ESD’s Behavioral Health Services support schools with mental and behavioral health resources for students.

We also offer on-site support, including Skills Trainers and Behavioral Health Instructional Assistants, as well as services from our School Safety and Prevention Specialist, who provides resources like threat assessments and suicide prevention training. With research-based methods and ongoing trainings, we help ensure all students have equitable access to learning.

What We Do

Clinical Information

Our department proudly hosts clinical interns who are pursuing mental and behavioral health services experience in a school-based K-12, educational setting. Graduate-level students in clinical mental health programs, work as interns, directly with schools to support students’ mental health and well-being, while working towards licensure required hours. They provide services such as one-on-one and group skills training, mental health check-ins, and connections to community resources—all under the guidance of a clinical supervisor.

This program benefits school communities by enhancing access to mental health support while providing future mental health providers with valuable hands-on experience. Whether you’re a school administrator seeking additional support for students, a teacher looking for collaborative solutions, a caregiver interested in available services, or a prospective intern exploring opportunities, our program is designed to meet the diverse needs of the K-12 environment.

Internship Opportunities

Contracted Services

The Behavioral Health Services program partners with districts to provide customized support tailored to the behavioral and mental health needs of K-12 students. Through contracted services, we offer experienced staff such as Instructional Assistants (IAs), Skills Trainers, and Behavior Interventionists who work in one-on-one or small group settings.

These professionals provide targeted interventions to help students navigate challenges, develop essential skills, and successfully engage in the classroom environment. Our flexible approach ensures that districts receive the specific support needed to create positive outcomes for their students.

Behavioral Health Consultancy

Our Behavioral Health Consultancy service supports administrators in addressing student behavior and mental health needs within their schools. This includes professional development opportunities, the development of data-driven district service plans, as well as, technical assistance with development of behavioral intervention and safety processes. We also offer support with classroom observation, Functional Behavioral Analysis support and consultancy in the development of Behavior Intervention Plans.

In addition, we assist districts with building school mental health system capacity, including identifying funding opportunities and troubleshooting challenges related to staffing capacity and retention. Our team also helps facilitate referrals and connections to community partners and services, ensuring students and families have access to the care they need.

Fees for consultancy services are determined on a case-by-case basis, allowing for a customized approach to meet your district’s unique needs. Many of these services are available at low to no cost for districts.

Flight Team

Our department offers a comprehensive response effort to schools and districts experiencing grief post crisis. Following any tragedy involving a member of the school community, we will dispatch a team of qualified mental health personnel to support students, teachers, and administrators in processing these events. We proudly work with providers from many local partners in these efforts. Flight Team dispatch may include but are not limited to: post-disaster, school or community violence events, death or serious bodily trauma.

School Safety & Prevention Services

The School Safety and Prevention Specialist (SSPS) promotes emotional success for students, within a multi-tiered framework emphasizing protections of historically, traditionally and currently underserved students and youth; supporting in the reduction of bullying, youth suicidality, and mass school violence. ESD SSPS’s serve across Oregon, operating in a collaborative network, enhancing accessibility to best practices and technical assistance support from partnering regions, as well as, Oregon Department of Education (ODE)

SSPS Consultancy includes:

Support in a Behavioral Safety Assessments of Treat (BSAT, SIRC, FIR I + II)
Consultancy on development of a Behavioral Safety Plan
Professional Development and Training
Suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention,
Prevention of bullying, cyberbullying, sexual violence, harassment, fire incidents, or intimidation
Promotion of inclusive, safe, and responsive school culture
