Parent Education offers classes, workshops and materials to parents to help them learn ways to provide effective discipline and guidance, nurture and foster life skills, promote healthy development, and, most of all, enjoy the enormous task of raising their children. Our classes target young children, but parents with children of all ages can benefit. Many community partners and school districts join together to support this collaborative effort to serve parents, children and families in South Central Oregon.
Parent Education is a grant funded and community supported program located at the Douglas Education Service District. We are part of the Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative and receive grants from The Oregon Community Foundation, Ford Family Foundation, Meyer Memorial Trust and The Collins Foundation to serve as the parent education and resource "Hub" for Douglas County.
In July 2016, The Oregon Community Foundation funded an expanded multi-year initiative to support parenting education programs in your community. Douglas ESD received this funding for your region. The Oregon Community Foundation has contracted with Oregon State University to work with Douglas ESD in evaluating the needs of families in your community. We are interested in hearing your perspective on your community’s support of young families and the services you would like to see offered in your community.
The survey should take you 15 minutes and you can exit the survey at any time. Information you provide on the following questions is voluntary and will remain confidential. Information you provide will be combined with information from others in your community and reported in summary form only.
For more information on this parenting education initiative or questions about local opportunities, contact Analicia Nicholson, Analicia.firstname.lastname@example.org, 541-440-4777.
- Increase access to quality parenting education classes, resources, and supports throughout the region
- Create a coordinated network of parenting education programs to avoid duplication of services
- Increase parental understanding of child’s learning, development, and readiness for school
- Normalize parenting education, so all parents feel comfortable needing and asking for help
Our programming provides a variety of opportunities for parents of young children to receive training in child care and development, nonviolent discipline methods, stress management and proactive communication techniques. Parents will learn ways to nurture and foster their child's development by providing stimulation, appropriate developmental opportunities and nurturing relationships. Research has clearly established the learning and practice of these parental skills as being instrumental to creating healthy and nurturing environments. Environment and relationships are important to early childhood development.
